Naked for Satan

It’s this kind of mysterious place that everyone tells you to go to and you arrive with this slightly nervous feeling about what may be waiting for you at this bar called Naked for Satan.

What a maddish name. Will there be naked people? Is it some kind of malicious place where burning flames are waiting for you? Should you get naked? Mhm.

Will there be naked people?

Turns out, it’s none of the sort. Turns out, it all goes back to this man called Leon Satanovich. A russian immigrant from the early 19 hundreds, who worked as a cleaner in the house on Brunswick Street 285. And what russians do – he also knew how to brew vodka. And that quite well. So his name got around. And what Australians do – they abbreviate. So Satanovich became Satan.

You have to know, vodka brewing is a steaming hot task and the boilers combined with the Australian heat led to the workers taking off their shirts while distilling the vodka. Et voilá: they got ‘Naked for Satan’.

Nowadays there is no Satanovich anymore, but what remains is the vodka. The menu offers a broad range of spirits, cocktails and everything you can wish for, but you come for the Absolut Naked Vodkas, which are special versions of Absolut Vodka-Longdrinks/Smoothies. However, they are very special.

Special is the menu, special are the Pintxos. Little tapas they are offering on the ground floor of the bar. They are served on little sticks and you pay whenever you are finished, so you count the amount of sticks left on your plate and that’s how many you pay.

If you are really hungry though, you will take the elevator to the upstairs and a wonderful restaurant will await you there! Or you just go upstairs after your Pintxos for another Cocktails and enjoy the breathtaking sky deck where you have the most magnificent view over Melbourne! Beautiful.

Thank You Satan for making Brunswick Street 285 such a wonderful place!

Love,
Margareta
